John of the Cross

The mystic John of the Cross describes the spiritual path as a profound inner process of maturation. At the heart of his teachings lies the experience of the "dark night of the soul"—a phase of inner emptiness and clarification in which familiar securities fall away and old attachments dissolve. For John, this experience is not a regression, but a necessary step on the path to inner freedom and closeness to God.
His writings show that true spiritual development often leads through phases of uncertainty and letting go. In this inner purification, a deeper form of trust and connection can unfold. The path to God is described as a silent process in which the ego gradually loses its significance, creating space for a direct inner experience.
In my work, I draw on selected ideas from his teachings to make transformation processes more understandable. John of the Cross helps us recognize that crises and inner transitions are part of a natural path of development. His perspective helps us understand difficult experiences as steps toward greater clarity, depth, and inner maturity.
