Teresa of Ávila

The mystic Teresa of Ávila describes the spiritual path as an inner journey to a deeper understanding of one's own being. Particularly in her work *The Inner Castle*, she portrays the soul as a space with various stages of development, through which consciousness and self-understanding gradually unfold. Spirituality appears in this context as a living process in which self-observation, inner reflection, and devotion play a central role.
At the heart of her understanding lies a deeply personal image of God. For Teresa, God is not a distant entity, but a living presence within each person. According to her, the path to God does not lead outward, but into the depths of one's own soul. Through inner reflection, prayer, and mindful self-awareness, this connection can gradually open. The spiritual path is thus a process of purification, clarification, and growing love, in which the ego gradually loses its significance and a feeling of profound connection arises.
In my work, I draw on selected ideas from *The Inner Castle* to make inner development processes more understandable. Teresa of Ávila shows how awareness, humility, and mindfulness can help deepen our connection to our own inner depths. Her perspective supports the understanding of spiritual experience as a natural part of human maturation.
The insights from her teachings encourage us to walk our own inner path with patience and clarity. They remind us that true development arises from the connection between self-knowledge, inner stillness, and lived experience.
